What kick started the process

The Umbrella story!

After a full day of negotiating with work, Satisfied with what I had accomplished for the day, I finally left my cabin at about 6:45 pm and got into my car to head back home.

My usual routine is to listen to a stand-up comedy on my way back home to rezone myself into a more acceptable father of 2 adorable daughters and a loving husband. The day usually makes e wear multiple hats, and I easily get lost in the transition.

Like any other day, it was regular traffic on the road, and with a smile on my face from the audio of the comedy, I was cruising back home; it's an easy fifteen to twenty minutes commute.

It starts getting dark about 7 pm here in Singapore, allowing me and my mind to relax as I feel like me the sun has also completed its routine and is on its way down the horizon. Something I can relate to and works for me.

Another interesting fact of Singapore is that being near the equator, it's a tropical country, and we can be blessed with rain anytime without warning. And this was one of that evening, it started raining cats and dogs, and the visibility suddenly became low.

As it rains, the Singapore traffic starts snailing partly to safety and partly to the visibility. Nothing that would stop anyone or anything, as most of us are prepared for a situation like this.

Well, I was almost 1km away waiting at a red signal crossing from my home and my eyes caught on the other side of the road, there was a construction site, and I could see a girl stranded there under a small sheet of shelter, I think she got caught in the sudden heavy downpour.

I felt pity for the girl and wished that someone would have given her an umbrella, my signal turned green, and I started cruising ahead feeling bad for the girl, and then it struck me that my car booth had an umbrella.

Excited, I wanted to help the girl, but then there wasn't a U-turn, and with such a heavy downpour, it was also dangerous to negotiate a turn, then it struck me that if that was my girl would I still wonder and wait for safety or would I do what all I can do the help.

Once that thought struck me, I was all pumped up to make the turn and reach out to the girl with an umbrella. Well, the universe made it very easy for me to make the turn with no oncoming traffic. I reached to the girl pulled over, and by the time I could get out of my car, reach the car booth and get the umbrella out, I was drenched.

With a smile on my face, I gave the umbrella ot the girl opposite to my expression. She was shocked, and after a couple of seconds, she asked the most obvious question, "thanks, but how do I return this to you." I now wet and felt cold wanted to get into my car, all I said, it's ok to help someone someday, and I ran back to my car.

As I sank into the seat of my car with a cold wind of my car's air conditioner hitting me, I was feeling just wonderful and feeling I could trade anything for. Wow-what a day, o thought to myself and left to complete the last few hundred meters back home.

I reached home and forgot all about it.

What happens next changes everything.

The story continues

AN UNEXPCTED END

A few weeks later, I was driving back home with my wife, daughters, and our domestic helper. We passed by a park near our residence, and my daughters were regular visitors to the Park and used to call it "Train playground" (the Park has an extensive train structure right in the middle of it).

Our helper told me that she had forgotten to tell us about an event that happened a few days back. With sparkles in her eyes, she said, you know. "One of a hot afternoon, while returning home from the Train Playground with my daughters; she saw a white car stopped by them, and a gentleman came out of the car and handed her over an umbrella and said, please take this, as it's pretty hot for the kids to walk in this sun.

I had tears in my eyes, screaming loud in my head; holy shit, what did I hear? Is this real? I immediately asked her what she had just narrated was true, without any hesitance, she said yes, sir, why do you ask.

I took a deep breath and narrated to them the story of the girl, rain and the umbrella, why narrating it I had goosebumps, and everyone in the car was looking at each other faces with a big surprise on it followed by smiles.

That's when we decided this deed had to keep going on. Hence keeppassing was created.

Loads of love and happiness paying it forward.

Frankly speaking, it gives us tremendous pleasure to see the spark and smile with equal confusion on the stranger's face when they receive a helping hand from someone they never expected.
But what is the concept of paying it forward all about?
The idea behind paying it forward is that whenever you benefit from a good deed, you let others participate by doing a (random) good deed instead of repaying the benefactor. However, you don't necessarily have to wait until someone does you a good deed. You can also be the one who starts paying it forward, the one who sets it all in motion
